The term “Panchakarma” means “five actions” or “five procedures,” referring to the five main techniques. Purvakarma

Pradhana Karma (Main Detoxification Phase)
Main Panchakarma consists of five key detox methods:
Vamana (Therapeutic Emesis): Vamana step involves inducing vomiting to clear toxins from the stomach using herbal decoctions. Herbs like Madanaphala, licorice, or saltwater is used. It helps in removing toxins or ama and excess mucus accumulated in the stomach and upper gastrointestinal tract. Basti (Medicated Enema): It involves herbal decoctions or oils administered rectally. This is of different types like Anuvasana Basti (oil-based) and Niruha Basti (herb-based). Balances Vata dosha, which governs movement in the digestive system, preventing issues like bloating, gas, and constipation. It strengthens the gut lining and promotes healthy gut flora. Nasya (Nasal Cleansing): Clears toxins from the head and neck region by administering medicated oils through the nostrils. Raktamokshana (Bloodletting): It focuses on removal of impure blood through controlled techniques like leech therapy or venipuncture. Paschat Karma (Post-Therapy Care)
It is the final phase of Panchakarma, focusing on consolidating the benefits of detoxification and restoring balance to the body. It involves gradually reintroducing normal activities, a light diet (Samsarjana Krama), herbal supplements, and lifestyle modifications tailored to the individual’s constitution (Prakriti) and condition (Vikriti).
