Water is important for our body. It is because water is a major constituent of all bodily fluids such as blood and plasma. Water is essential for digestion of food, absorption of food and also excretion of wastes from the body. Water is useful to cool the body and regulate its temperature. It constitutes two third of our body.
During summer due to the heat, we need to increase the intake of water as lot of water and electrolytes get depleted with sweating. Each cell of human body requires water in order to perform their function. When the level of water drops in our body, we feel fatigue. Due to fatigue, our energy level comes down and we aren’t active as we used to be. This can further lead to some other health complications.

Weight gain and difficulty in digestion could also be the result of lack of water in human body. During summer we sweat a lot and water is lost through our body, so it’s necessary for us to maintain the required water level of body. It is recommended that we should drink at least 3 – 4 litres of water every day. Not compensating the lost water, will eventually makes us dehydrated. People who go outside should carry water along with them.
Children and adults are especially at risk of becoming dehydrated because of the way their body reacts to hot temperature. We should not wait to drink water until we are thirsty. One should drink enough water so that while urinating the colour of urine is colourless. If the colour is yellowish then your body lacks water. Drinking enough water in summers is a must.
Water hydrates the body
During summer due to the hot temperature our body losses water exponentially. If we do not meet the need of water then a person becomes dehydrated. Some common signs of dehydration are drying of mouth, yellowish colour of urine, headaches, dry skin and tiredness.
To start a day with high energy level we should hydrate our body. We should drink at least 1 litre of water every morning before hitting our work. It keeps a person hydrated and maintain the energy level required by the body to perform task. So, it’s better if we take care of our body rather than falling ill and then finding cure. We should also include other forms of liquids but not sugary one.
Increases efficiency
Lack of water in our body lead to dehydration. Dehydration causes muscle fatigue. Due to fatigue, we are not able to perform well. Water not only lubricated the joints in our body but it plays a vital role in transporting oxygen to different parts of the body. So, drinking good amount of water helps our muscle to function.
Water also toxifies our body. It helps to remove the metabolic waste and regulate body temperature. Water boost energy level of our body and helps our body to overcome fatigue and tiredness. Dehydration lowers the blood level of our body. Due to this, pressure is increased on heart to circulate blood and oxygen throughout the body. This makes it difficult for us to perform our daily task. This also contribute to fatigue which is why people feel lethargic during summer.
Water is necessary for cardiovascular health. So, in order keep oneself energetic, we should drink lots of water during summer. So, if you have decided to play in summer or to do yoga and jogging or hitting a gym, then you must drink sufficient amount of water. So that your muscle can function accordingly.
Water is good for a healthy and supple skin
During summer we face extreme heat. This heat damages our skin which could be seen as sun burn and dry skin. Due to the loss of water the skin losses its elasticity. Skin is the largest part of our body which is exposed to extreme weather conditions. Water is considered the best remedy to rehydrate and heal. So, to maintain a soft and supple skin, you should drink water.
Water moisturises the skin and keep it radiant. Signs of dry mouth and lips are the sign of dehydration. Drinking adequate amount of water keep them moist. Even when a person is asleep, they experience dry mouth and lips. This is because they have not had enough water.
Helps in weight loss
One of the benefits of water is losing weight. If we drink water at regular intervals, it cuts down the urge of hunger and snacking. Drinking a glass of water just before a meal, helps us to have a feeling of fullness. This keeps us from overeating.
Improves digestion
Fluids in any form is required to move the food we eat in our intestines. If there is not enough fluid to carry the nutrients, a person suffers from constipation. Because of lack of fluid, stomach pain also starts. This can further cause digestive problem in a long run. Drinking water also removes the metabolic waste though urination and defecation. It is said that we should drink water 1 hour after our meal. This will improve the digestive function of the body.
Mental health
Some people face the difficulty to understand the situation in summer due to the extreme heat stroke. If a person is hydrated then he will be able to focus and work out his thoughts. Drinking water during this period helps the brain to function properly. It provides the brain with oxygen so it could perform its duty. Due to the loss of water from the body a person also faces short term memory loss. Providing your body water in any form is good for health. One can eat fruits and vegetables beside drinking water.
Maintains body temperature
When we some work our body releases energy in the form of heat. This is a chemical process. When we work hard, our body releases a lot of energy in the form of heat. In order to maintain the temperature of the body, we start sweating and start exhaling deeply. Drinking water replenishes our body with fluids and nutrients.

It is not possible for a person to not go outside during summer. These summer days can become difficult for a person if they don’t drink sufficient water. Drinking less water will make a person dehydrated and as we have seen before that it causes serious health problems.
Depending on every individual, their intake of water varies. One should make it a habit to carry a bottle of water with them all times to stay hydrated. Drinking water in comfortable amount is good. A person should imbibe in them to have other fluids also like coconut water, sugarcane juice which is common in summer. Watermelon is one of the best fruits which has high water content.
